Tech Trekker Alumnae STEM Scholarship

The Antelope Valley Branch sends middle school girls to a one-week summer residential STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) camp, called Tech Trek. See the Tech Trek Section. See the Tech Trek section.

In order to continue to encourage Tech Trekkers to major STEM subjects and to consider a STEM related career, in 2013 we began offering a scholarship to previous Antelope Valley Tech Trekkers, who have just graduated from high school and have been accepted at a college or university to major in a STEM field. The 2013 scholarship was for $500; the scholarships in 2021 were for range $2,000 and $3,000, thanks to our members and sponsors.

2013

JessicaPfefferThe first recipient of this scholarship is 2007 Whittier College Tech Trekker Jessica Pfeffer.

I graduated in December 2016 with a Bachelors of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from Georgia Tech. While I attended Georgia Tech I interned at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena and Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company in Denver, Colorado. I remember touring JPL as a Tech Trek field trip! I started a full-time job as a Systems Engineer at Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company about six months ago. I work in our Deep Space Exploration division and I work on the Mission Operations teams for the MAVEN and Juno spacecrafts. I really enjoy my job so far. I am continuously grateful for my Tech Trek experiences and how much it encouraged and inspired me to pursue an education and career in a STEM field. While in college I was actively involved in the Society of Women Engineers chapter at Georgia Tech and would often volunteer at middle and high school outreach events similar to Tech Trek.
