TECH TREK GRAD
The Antelope Valley Branch sends middle school girls to a one-week summer residential STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) camp, called Tech Trek. See the Tech Trek Section. See the Tech Trek section.
In order to continue to encourage Tech Trekkers to major STEM subjects and to consider a STEM related career, in 2013 we began offering a scholarship to previous Antelope Valley Tech Trekkers, who have just graduated from high school and have been accepted at a college or university to major in a STEM field. The 2013 scholarship was for $500; the scholarships in 2021 ranged from $2,000 and $3,000, thanks to our members and sponsors.
2013: The first recipient of this scholarship is 2007 Whittier College Tech Trekker Jessica Pfeffer. She earned a BS in Aerospace Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology, and is working for an aerospace firm.
2014: The 2014 scholarship recipient is Phoebe Coy. She was a Tech Trekker at Cal State Fresno in 2009. She majored in mathematics at the University of California at Santa Barbara.
2015: Susan Chor, a 2010 Tech Trekker at Whittier College, was the 2015 scholarship recipient. She studied medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Her goal is to become an epidemiologist and do research at the Center for Disease Control.
2016: Tiffany Benavides, a 2011 UC Santa Barbara Tech Trekker, is the 2016 Tech Trek Grad scholarship recipient. She majored in Mechanical Engineering at California Polytechnic University in Pomona, CA.
2017: Samara Imbeah, a 2012 UC Irvine Tech Trekker. She graduated from Quartz Hill High School. She will attend Cornell University to major in Mechanical Engineering.
2017: Rthura Cevallos, a 2012 UC Santa Barbara Tech Trekker. She graduated from Pete Knight High School. She will attend UC Irvine to major in biological science.
2018: Anna Pedersen, a 2013 UC Santa Barbara Tech Trekker, graduated from Quartz Hill High School, and was a junior counselor for several years at UCSB. She will major in physics at UC Santa Barbara and plans to get a PhD.
2018: Sophia Quiroz, a 2013 UC Irvine Tech Trekker, who graduated valedictorian from the Palmdale Aerospace Academy, and who will attend UCLA for pre-med studies, and become a doctor.
2018: Aseniq Shahid-Williams, a 2013 UC Santa Barbara Tech Trekker, graduated from Pete Knight High School. She was a junior and senior counselor at three Tech Trek camps.
2019: Cindy Elizabeth Pineda, a 2014 UC Santa Barbara Tech Trekker, graduated with honors from Antelope Valley High School, will major in Aerospace Engineering at UC Davis.
2019: Kayleen Moua, a 2014 UC Santa Barbara Tech Trekker, graduated from Eastside High School, will attend Antelope Valley College, then transfer to a university, and will major in biology.
2020: Kennedy Benavides, a 2015 UC Santa Barbara Tech Trekker, is a 2020 Tech Trek Grad scholarship recipient. She is majoring in Chemistry at California Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo.
2020: Paola Sanchez, a 2015 UC Santa Barbara Tech Trekker, is a 2020 Tech Trek Grad scholarship recipient. She is majoring in Aerospace Engineering at UC San Diego.
2020: Candice Geluz, a 2015 UC Santa Barbara Tech Trekker, is a 2020 Tech Trek Grad scholarship recipient. She is majoring in Animal Health Science at California Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo.
2020: Kaitlyn McChristian, a 2015 UC Santa Barbara Tech Trekker, is a 2020 Tech Trek Grad scholarship recipient. She is majoring in Biology and Physiology at San Francisco State University.
2021: Arissa Anaya, a 2016 UC Santa Barbara Tech Trekker, graduated from Antelope Valley High School, will major in biological sciences at UCLA
2021: Kayla Fort, a 2016 UC Santa Barbara Tech Trekker, graduated from Boron High School, will major in nursing at Cerro Coso College.
2021: Griselle Velasquez, a 2016 UC Irvine Tech Trekker, a UC Irvine Tech Trekker counselor 2018-19, a graduate of Pete Knight High School, will major in biology at one of the UC Universities.
2021: Ambar Zamuria, a 2016 UC Santa Barbara Tech Trekker, is a 2021 Tech Trek Grad scholarship recipient. She is majoring in Biological Sciences at UCLA.
